I installed six of these two days ago. Yesterday got a call from my wife telling me they had been awake by the carbon monoxide alert. The car was running in the garage, probably because of the remote been pressed by something in her bag. The voice alert for CO sounded in all rooms; she took the kids outside and opened all doors and windows. Pros- easy to install - battery access from the outside (but can lock it so that you'd have to removed the unit from the ceiling to access it) - Hush feature - button to turn off the alarm for 10 minutes should it go off due to smoke from the range or oven - voice to tell you whether fire or carbon monoxide - 7 year warranty Cons - replacement required after 7 years - the tamper resistant tab that prevents people from removing the unit from the ceiling breaks off easily (not really much of an issue unless you want to make the battery tamper resistant as well as the unit) Replaced my smoke detectors with these units. The old units had two hook-like protrusions on the part that was attached to the ceiling and after replacing the battery, one of them snapped off when I tried to reattach the unit. I replaced my two old smoke detectors with this one and the COSM-IB to add CO detection in both levels of my home and check for both ionization and smoke. The unit tested okay except that it did not send out the interconnect alarm signal nor did it respond to the alarm state from the other unit. KIDDE customer support was good about helping me resolve which unit was faulty and did replace the faulty unit. It took about 10 days to receive the replacement. I think that KIDDE should have been a bit faster in getting the replacement to me. |
